Sometimes you need a network connection from one point to another, but running fibre isn’t practical.

The buildings may be separated by a road. Civil works might be expensive or take months. The location could be temporary, difficult to reach, or simply too far away for a normal wired connection.

Connect two locations without running fibre

A dedicated wireless link can extend your network from one location to another without installing a physical cable between them.

That could mean connecting two offices across a street, linking buildings on a campus, bringing connectivity to another part of an industrial site, or reaching infrastructure that’s difficult to connect by cable.

When running fibre doesn’t make sense

Fibre is an excellent way to connect two fixed locations. If it’s already available, we’d normally use it.

The problem is getting it there.

Trenching, permits and civil works can make a relatively simple network connection surprisingly expensive. At remote or temporary locations, installing fibre may not make economic sense at all.

A wireless link can often be deployed much faster and with considerably less physical infrastructure.

It can be used as the permanent connection, as a temporary solution while waiting for fibre, or as an independent backup route alongside an existing wired network.

Point-to-point and point-to-multipoint

Not every project is simply building A to building B.

You may need to connect one central location to several remote buildings, cameras, access points or pieces of infrastructure.

SiteLink can cover both dedicated point-to-point connections and point-to-multipoint networks, depending on the required capacity, distances and physical layout.

For larger projects, different types of links can also be combined into the same network.

We don’t start with the frequency

Wireless backhaul covers a wide range of technologies.

Depending on the application, that can include mmWave, microwave, 60 GHz, free-space optical, Wi-Fi-based systems and other licensed or unlicensed wireless technologies.

There isn’t one technology we’d recommend for every link.

A 200-metre connection between two buildings has very different requirements from a multi-kilometre remote-site link. Throughput, line of sight, weather, mounting locations, spectrum availability and required uptime all influence the choice.

You don’t need to know which technology you need.

More than a fibre alternative
