Private wireless connectivity for sites and large-scale operations
Public mobile networks and conventional Wi-Fi are good enough for most environments.
Large industrial sites, campuses and critical operations can be different. You may need coverage across a much larger area, predictable capacity for operational systems, or simply more control over the network your equipment depends on.
PrivateLink is our approach to those applications.
We design private wireless connectivity for industrial sites, logistics operations, campuses, ports, mines and other environments where connectivity is part of the operation, not just a way to get online.
Planning a private wireless network? Tell us about the site and what you need to connect.
Your own wireless network
Private wireless gives an organization dedicated network infrastructure for its own users, machines and applications.
Depending on the application, that could mean private 4G or 5G, dedicated Wi-Fi infrastructure, point-to-point and point-to-multipoint wireless, or a combination of technologies.
Typical applications include:
- Factories and industrial sites
- Warehouses and logistics operations
- Ports and terminals
- Mines and remote operations
- Energy and utility sites
- Large campuses
- Connected vehicles and machinery
- Video, sensors and operational systems
- Autonomous equipment
- Temporary and remote sites
The objective isn’t to deploy private 5G because private 5G sounds impressive. It’s to build the wireless network that actually makes sense for the operation.
Connect more than laptops and phones
Enterprise Wi-Fi is usually designed around people.
Industrial and operational networks often need to support something quite different.
Vehicles. Cameras. Machines. Sensors. Handheld terminals. Autonomous equipment. Remote systems. And sometimes thousands of connected endpoints spread across a large site.
These applications can have very different requirements around coverage, mobility, latency, throughput and availability.
PrivateLink starts with those requirements.
Coverage where you actually need it
Large sites rarely have simple coverage requirements.
A warehouse may have dense indoor coverage requirements. A mine can span kilometres. A port combines buildings, open areas, moving equipment and large metal structures. Remote facilities may have limited public network coverage in the first place.
We look at the physical site, the assets being connected and how those assets move before determining the network architecture.
That can mean one technology across the site, but quite often it means combining several.
Private 4G and 5G where they make sense
Private cellular can be particularly interesting for large operational environments.
It can provide managed coverage across wide areas while supporting mobile equipment, vehicles and large numbers of connected devices on dedicated infrastructure.
But it isn’t automatically the right answer.
Some applications are better served by industrial Wi-Fi. Others need a dedicated high-speed link, optical wireless or another specialist technology alongside the wider network.
PrivateLink allows those technologies to be considered as part of the same connectivity problem rather than treating every requirement as a private 5G project.
One site, different connections
A large industrial operation rarely has only one wireless requirement.
The same site might need broad private wireless coverage for vehicles and handheld devices, high-capacity links between buildings, dedicated communication with moving machinery and high-speed data transfer at specific locations.
Trying to force all of that onto one wireless technology isn’t always sensible.
We’d rather design around the individual requirements and bring them together into a practical overall architecture.
Start with the requirements
Private wireless projects can become complicated quickly. They don’t need to start that way.
Tell us what kind of site you’re operating, what needs to be connected and what isn’t working with the current setup.
From there, we can assess the relevant technologies and determine what the next step should be.
Tell us about your project
Give us a brief description of the site and what you’re looking to connect. We’ll take it from there.
Technologies behind this solution
For large or distributed sites, we design private wireless systems using technologies that offer control, scalability, and uninterrupted coverage.
