SecureLink

Wireless connectivity for sensitive and RF-restricted environments

Most wireless networks are designed around coverage. Make the signal available wherever people need it.

In some environments, that’s exactly the problem.

SecureLink is designed for organizations that need wireless connectivity in environments where conventional RF isn’t appropriate, whether because of security requirements, signal containment, interference concerns or restrictions on radio communication.

We work across multiple wireless technologies to design connections for secure rooms, government and defense facilities, RF-sensitive environments, research facilities and other locations where ordinary Wi-Fi isn’t necessarily the right answer.

Need wireless connectivity without relying on conventional Wi-Fi? Tell us about the application.

When RF isn’t the obvious answer

There are different reasons why an organization might want an alternative to conventional radio communication.

In a secure boardroom, the concern may be how far the wireless signal travels.

In a research or test environment, RF transmissions may interfere with the work being carried out, or simply aren’t permitted.

Elsewhere, the challenge might be an already difficult RF environment where adding another radio-based network isn’t desirable.

SecureLink starts with that constraint.

Depending on the application, we can consider optical wireless technologies such as LiFi and infrared, highly directional wireless links, localized RF networks and other specialist wireless systems.

The objective isn’t to eliminate RF at all costs. It’s to use the right wireless technology for the environment.

Create contained wireless zones

Radio signals don’t stop neatly at the edge of a room.

For an ordinary office that may not matter. For a boardroom, restricted workspace or sensitive facility, it can.

Optical wireless behaves differently. LiFi and infrared systems communicate using light, allowing the wireless signal to be contained much more naturally by physical boundaries such as opaque walls.

This makes it possible to create localized wireless zones in places where controlling signal propagation is important.

Typical applications include:

  • Secure meeting and boardrooms
  • Government and defense facilities
  • RF-sensitive environments
  • Research and test facilities
  • Restricted operational areas
  • Sensitive corporate environments
  • Temporary secure workspaces
  • Environments where RF communication is restricted

Wireless connectivity without conventional RF

Sometimes security isn’t the main concern at all. The environment itself is.

Certain laboratories, test environments and specialist facilities have good reasons to limit radio transmissions. Other environments may have equipment, processes or policies that make conventional RF communication undesirable.

Optical wireless provides another way to move data wirelessly.

Instead of transmitting data using radio waves, technologies such as LiFi and infrared use light for the wireless connection. That can make them particularly useful where you need the flexibility of wireless communication without adding another conventional RF link.

Keep the convenience of wireless

Removing Wi-Fi often means going back to cables.

Sometimes that’s the right answer. But cables also limit mobility and can be impractical for laptops, portable equipment and changing workspaces.

SecureLink is intended for situations where you still need the practical benefits of wireless connectivity, but there is a specific reason conventional wireless isn’t suitable.

Depending on the application, that could mean providing wireless access to laptops inside a secure room, connecting equipment in an RF-restricted facility, or creating a dedicated wireless link between devices without relying on the wider Wi-Fi network.

More than LiFi

There isn’t one technology that solves every sensitive wireless application.

A contained boardroom has very different requirements from an RF-restricted laboratory or a large defense facility.

That’s why SecureLink isn’t built around a single product.

We work across multiple wireless technologies and closely with a range of specialist partners. We look at the environment, devices, required coverage, throughput and the reason conventional wireless isn’t suitable before recommending an approach.

If conventional Wi-Fi solves the problem perfectly well, we’ll say so. SecureLink is most useful when it doesn’t.

Start with a controlled deployment

For unfamiliar or demanding applications, it often makes sense to prove the connection in one defined area first.

That might be one boardroom, laboratory, secure office or operational area.

We can assess the requirement, recommend a suitable configuration and, where possible, provide a system for evaluation in the actual environment.

Once the approach has been validated, it can be expanded to additional rooms or locations.
