Wireless connectivity for machines and moving equipment
Connecting two machines is straightforward when you can run a cable between them. It becomes more difficult when one moves, rotates, travels across a factory, or simply can’t have a physical connection.
IndustrialLink is our approach to those applications.
We design specialist wireless connections for machines, AGVs, AMRs, robots and industrial equipment. Instead of starting with a particular technology, we look at what needs to communicate, how it moves and what the connection needs to achieve.
Have a specific application? Tell us what you’re trying to connect.
When conventional connectivity doesn’t quite fit
IndustrialLink is intended for applications where there is a good reason not to use a cable or conventional industrial Wi-Fi.
Typical applications include:
- Machine-to-machine communication
- AGV and AMR connectivity
- Robots and automation systems
- Moving and rotating equipment
- Wireless Ethernet replacement
- Communication across mechanical gaps
- High-speed data offload from vehicles and machines
- Short-range, high-speed wireless links
- RF-sensitive industrial environments
If conventional industrial Wi-Fi solves the problem perfectly well, we’d normally use it. IndustrialLink is most useful when it doesn’t.
We don’t start with the technology
LiFi. Infrared optical wireless. 60 GHz/mmWave. Industrial Wi-Fi. Private wireless. And other specialist wireless technologies.
They solve different problems.
IndustrialLink works across multiple wireless technologies rather than being built around one particular system. Give us the distance, movement, required data rate and operating environment, and we’ll assess which approach makes sense.
The best solution for a fixed 20-metre link can be completely different from the best solution between two moving AGVs.
You’re not expected to know which one you need.
Connect machines that move
Moving equipment creates a different connectivity problem from fixed equipment. Distance changes. Angles change. Machines move independently. Obstacles may enter the path between them.
In some applications, the connection needs to remain available continuously while the equipment moves. An AGV might need to communicate with another vehicle, a robot with surrounding equipment, or a moving machine with fixed infrastructure.
In others, continuous connectivity isn’t necessary at all. You may only need a fast connection when the machine reaches a particular location.
We look at the actual movement and communication requirement rather than recommending a system based on range alone.
Transfer data at specific communication points
Sometimes the requirement is much simpler: move a lot of data, quickly, when a machine reaches the right place.
A mining truck stops for charging. An AGV reaches a station. A vehicle enters a loading bay. A machine passes a fixed communication point.
IndustrialLink can create a dedicated high-speed communication zone at that location, allowing data to be transferred automatically while the asset is within range.
This can be particularly useful for bulk data offload, diagnostics, software updates, logs, video or other large datasets that don’t need to be transmitted continuously.
Wireless without conventional RF
There are environments where another radio connection simply isn’t desirable.
Optical wireless technologies such as LiFi and infrared communication use light rather than conventional RF for the wireless link. This can make them particularly useful where radio communication is restricted or undesirable, or where the available RF spectrum is problematic.
Other applications may be better served by mmWave, industrial Wi-Fi, private wireless or another technology entirely.
That’s the point of IndustrialLink. We select the technology around the connection, not the connection around the technology.
Start with one connection
For unfamiliar or demanding applications, it often makes sense to prove the connection before committing to a larger deployment.
Send us the basic requirements. We’ll assess the application, recommend a suitable approach and, where possible, provide an evaluation system for testing under real operating conditions.
If it works as required, we can then configure the wider deployment.
Tell us what you’re trying to connect
You don’t need to know which wireless technology you need. Give us the basics and we’ll take it from there.
Technologies behind this solution
In industrial environments, the right mix of technologies ensures consistent, predictable connectivity where standard wireless becomes unreliable under load, interference, and movement.
